Postpartum doulas are concerned with the welfare of the whole family. We are there to help share knowledge of infant-care including breast/bottle-feeding, bathing, and sleeping habits. We care for new parents and siblings, create a safe space for families to bond, help with healing and provide evidence-based information regarding infant care. Meal prep for the family, doing laundry, errands and sibling care are all an important part of the job as well.
Studies show that when parents are supported and cared for in the early days of a newborn's life, they are better prepared to meet the challenges of baby's first days and early childhood. We are there to help you and your family transition into parenthood and aid recovery for the birthing mother.
Postpartum doulas usually start work the first week of baby's arrival and continue for up to a month or more. Each week will look a little bit different. An average parent will ask for around 6 hours a day for several days a week. Our goal is reduce our work hours and leave each family ready for early parenthood.
Some parents may prefer just a few visits or a simple consultation.
Please note that West LA Doulas do not offer overnight support.
